Ethan Schmeisser

Pianist, Conductor


Ethan Schmeisser is a Romanian - Israeli conductor and pianist. He was born in Israel and graduated cum laude from the conducting program at the Tel Aviv Music Academy. He has served as Artistic Director of the National Opera of Bucharest in its centenary seasons (2021-2023), as well as serving as Conductor, pianist, Head of Music Department and Chorus Master of the Israeli Opera Tel Aviv between 2010-2021, conducteing more then 20 operas from baroque till contemporary premiers and was a music director of many concerts and outreach productions. He has worked as a harpsichordist and pianist for opera productions and concerts the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, where he played and assisted world famous conductors as Zubin Mehta, Kurt Masur, Gianandrea Noseda, Manfred Honneck, Marin Alsop and more. Today he's the principal conductor of the Jerusalem Lyric Opera Festival and Studio.


He conducted as a guest conductor the Israel Chamber Orchestra, the Israel Camerata Jeruslaem, the Haifa Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion, the Raanana Symphonette Orchestra, the Israel Sinfonietta Beer Sheva, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra IBA, Barrocade and other orchestras ensembles in Israel. He has conducted at the Perugia Music Festival, Orchestra Filarmonica Della Calabria in Italy, the opera houses of Odessa, Lucca, Varna, Shanghai and Fuzhuo in China.
